The Menagerie Oddities Market celebrated International Women’s Day by presenting “Women of Oddities,” the organizer’s first event of the year. Held March 8 in downtown Oakland, it provided an opportunity for local goths, pagans, steampunks, and others to shop for handcrafted wares from a curated group of female vendors.
Thousands of people, many in costumes, gathered in the seaside town of Whitby, U.K. for the 30th anniversary of Whitby Goth Weekend. The festival, held Nov. 1-3, is believed to be one of the world’s largest goth events.
Twice a year, goths and steampunks from across the U.K. travel to the North Yorkshire coast for Whitby Goth Weekend. The latest gathering took place April 26-28, and our guest photographer was there to shoot pictures and pose for some as well.

The Menagerie presented the latest Victorian Oddities Market at Spire the Church in Oakland, California. The event featured artisan vendors selling goth and steampunk items including jewelry, accessories, apparel, headwear, and home décor.
The Menagerie Oddities Market presented the 3rd Annual SF Bay Area World Goth Day Festival May 6 in Vallejo, California. With all the crossover between goth and steampunk, there was plenty at the event for steampunk fans to enjoy.
Author Jess Nevins famously stated that “steampunk is what happens when goths discover brown.” But for a few days last month it was steampunks donning black as the spring edition of Whitby Goth Weekend took place April 28-30.
Presented by The Menagerie Oddities Market, it will consist of a daytime event with vendors, music, and a fashion show, followed by an evening concert headlined by Ausgang. Unwoman will perform at the daytime event.
The Edwardian Ball marked the end of an era this year as it featured the event’s last performances by Rosin Coven, the “pagan lounge ensemble” that launched the first Edwardian Ball in 1999. But the event also offered many other attractions.
The event will feature the the final Edwardian Ball performances of Rosin Coven, the dark cabaret music ensemble that launched the first Edwardian Ball in 2000. It’s scheduled for Feb. 3-4, 2023 at the Regency Center in San Francisco.
Twice a year, Whitby Goth Weekend draws hundreds to the North Yorkshire seaside town known for its association with Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Many show up for the live music and artisan markets, but cosplay is also a big part of the allure.
Scenes from the second annual Victorian Oddities Market, held July 10 at Oakland’s historic Camron-Stanford House Museum. It was a great opportunity to see costumes, meet artisan vendors, and tour an 1880’s-era mansion.
Photos: Hundreds of costumed revelers turned out April 1 and 2 for music, art, circus acts, and more. The Ball serves as a tribute to writer and illustrator Edward Gorey, and each night culminated with a stage adaptation of Gorey’s The Wuggly Ump.

As if the music, costumes, circus acts, and art installations weren’t enough, the Edwardian World’s Faire and Edwardian Ball featured a large, curated Vendor Bazaar with about 50 sellers of (mostly) handmade items. Steampunk was well represented.
