It’s another busy weekend on the U.S. steampunk calendar, especially in Connecticut, where two events are taking place. Meanwhile, WhimsyCon returns to Denver and Milwaukee-area steampunks will raise funds to battle bleeding disorders.
The North American steampunk calendar is shifting west this weekend with one gathering in North Central Washington state and two more in Northern California. All three will be happening largely outdoors.
Steampunk fans once again flocked to Hannibal, Missouri for the annual gathering
The Big River Steampunk Festival returned over Labor Day Weekend with a new owner and questions about whether it would be as big and spectacular as past gatherings. Our correspondent has a report and photos.
Burning Man may be officially cancelled, but thousands are flocking to Black Rock Desert for an unsanctioned renegade festival, and groups around the world are hosting virtual experiences.
The organizers cited COVID-19, which “has affected every part” of the steampunk gathering. It was set to take place Saturday, Oct. 23, in downtown Attleboro, Massachusetts.
Attendees can look forward to an extensive program of presentations covering all aspects of geek culture, including steampunk. If you can’t make it to Atlanta, this year’s convention will offer multiple tracks of virtual programming.
Steampunk favorites The Eternal Frontier will be the headline act at the festival. It will include steampunk-related activities, but the name also alludes to the event’s focus on science, technology, engineering, art, and makers.
The long wait will soon be over for many steampunk fans eager to congregate in the eastern U.S., as three events are scheduled for this weekend: The Key City Steampunk Festival in Central Pennsylvania, the Southern Maine Steampunk Fair at the Brick Store Museum, and MegaCon in Orlando.
