Lots of costumed spectacle at the Newark Free Steampunk Festival in the UK
Hundreds of steampunks gathered in costumed splendor at the Newark Free Steampunk Festival, held Aug. 28 and 29 in Newark-on-Trent. The event was presented by the Ministry of Steampunk after the Asylum Steampunk Festival was cancelled.
September will be another busy month on the UK steampunk calendar with at least five major events scheduled over the next few weeks, beginning with Crich Steampunk Weekend and Steampunk Essextraordinaire VI this Saturday and Sunday.
Whitby Pavilion once again hosted a large gathering of steampunks in costumed splendor
After a long pandemic-induced hiatus, steampunk fans returned July 23-25 to Whitby Pavilion in North Yorkshire for Whitby Steampunk Weekend X. It featured a steampunk market plus workshops, presentations, and live entertainment.
The Professor will headline a show at the Stroud Steampunk Picnic Party, which will also feature art workshops by Tom and Nimue Brown. The Captain will perform at Amberley Steampunk Weekend, which takes place at an open-air history museum.
In recent months, steampunk drama in Lincoln, UK has been more about government councils and COVID concerns than airships or sea monsters. But that appears to be over as the Ministry of Steampunk inked a deal with local authorities.

Photo Gallery: After more than a year of the pandemic, folks are eager to get out and socialize, and so it was last weekend as steampunks gathered at Chatsworth House in Derbyshire and Papplewick Pumping Station in Nottingham.
The Ministry of Steampunk announced the news Sunday, citing the closure of Kelham Hall, the main venue for the event. The Ministry was unable to cut a deal with Kelham Hall’s new owners, and efforts to find a new location also came to naught.
