It’s time once again for a look at successful Kickstarter campaigns from recent months. They included three projects that raised six-figure sums: The Girl Genius RPG from Steve Jackson Games, Lady Mechanika: The Monster of the Ministry of Hell #1 from Joe Benitez, and City of the Great Machine from CrowD Games.
This is turning out to be a big week for steampunk-related Kickstarter campaigns: The Girl Genius RPG; a new audio drama from the creator of Boston Metaphysical Society; and City of the Great Machine, a new steampunk-themed tabletop game.
Created in collaboration with Phil and Kaja Foglio, it’s described as a “complete roleplaying game covering character creation, equipment, combat, and dramatic situations and tasks – including inventing, of course.”
The tabletop RPG is inspired by video games such as Skies of Arcadia and Guns of Icarus. It’s set in a steampunk fantasy world where humans and other species occupy the skies, and players take the roles of explorers in an airship.
Metropius is set in an alternate universe where World War II has been going on for 40 years. The producers are planning a video game, board game, animated TV series, comic, and virtual reality experience.
Frostpunk 2 takes place 30 years later, when the search for energy involves oil rather than coal. Players take the role of a city leader who must deal with competing factions and outside threats in addition to the cold.
Fans can vote for their favorite works in 15 categories covering novels, comics, TV series, movies, and games. Two categories will be of particular interest to steampunk fans. You can register to vote even if you’re not attending Dragon Con.
Comic-Con @Home will feature panels, movie screenings, and more. Here’s a look at the highlights, including a comic series based on the Winchester Mystery House and a screening of Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.
A look at successful Kickstarter campaigns that concluded in April, May, and June. Renegade Game Studios raised more than $900,000 for My Father’s Work. Also: A new album from Unwoman, a new hardcover edition of Hopeless Maine Book One, and the latest in the Boston Metaphysical Society series.
This week on the crowdfunding platform: An adventure game starring Nikola Tesla and a comic book about Sasquatch set during the 19th century Klondike gold rush.
