One of the big draws of a pop culture convention is the chance to see TV and movie stars. Fan Expo San Francisco had plenty of those, but we were more interested in meeting independent artists and cosplayers, steampunk and otherwise.

Crich Tramway Village, an open-air museum in Derbyshire, U.K., would appear to be the perfect location for a steampunk event, and sure enough, it hosts a steampunk weekend each September with entertainment, tea dueling, traders, and more.

The Big River Steampunk Festival took place over Labor Day weekend in Hannibal, Missouri, and our correspondent described it as one of the best yet. It was likely the biggest ever, as the local visitor's bureau pegged total attendance at 21,500.
