Steampunks Steer Airships to Haworth

Monday, October 4, 2021

The village of Haworth in West Yorkshire is known for its association with the Brontë sisters. But soon it will look more like a setting for a Jules Verne or H.G. Wells novel as Haworth Steampunk Weekend takes place Oct. 8-10. The event will feature traders, entertainment, and lots of steampunk cosplay, all with the goal of raising funds for the Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice in nearby Oxenhope.

As with previous festivals, it will feature free daytime activities along with ticketed entertainment on Friday and Saturday night.

Saturday’s daytime entertainment will include vintage singer Kitten von Mew plus the All Together Now Yorkshire Choir and Haworth Brass Band. Bellydance troupe North Wind Tribal will offer performances around the village on Sunday.

Trader stalls will be open both days from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Haworth Village Hall on Butt Lane and The Old School Room on Church Street.

Friday night’s ticketed show will feature burlesque performances by Raven Noir, Starla Bright, Seedy Frills, Tallulah Manhattan, Pansy Cheung, Temptress la Tease, Roxie Royale, and Eleanor Gaywood. Trixie Blue will serve as host.

The Saturday night show will feature Kitten von Mew along with The Wattingers and Victor and the Bully.

Both shows take place at Haworth Village Hall. Tickets cost £20 plus booking fees.

Visitors will also have opportunities for rides on the historic Keighley & Worth Valley Railway.

The event is organized by White Rose Yorkshire Steampunks. See the Facebook event page for more info.
