This week’s crowdfunding roundup includes a new steampunk comic book series from a former Marvel editor, plus a set of 3D printable terrain models for tabletop games.
Sky Guy and The Altitude Adjustors
PopSkull Press launched a Kickstarter campaign for Issue No. 1 of this new comic book series. The publisher describes it as a “cozy” steampunk tale featuring “mutants and perhaps a little bit of magic.”
In the world of the series, people live in ancient “Aerotowns” that float above a surface populated by primitive, mutated lifeforms. “Due to lost knowledge, only Altitude Adjustors know how to maintain them and keep them suspended in the atmosphere,” the creator explains. “But a single act of sabotage will begin a chain of events that change their entire world forever.”
The main protagonist is Aaron Skye, aka Sky Guy, who leads a team of Altitude Adjustors in one of these Aerotowns.
The story was written by PopSkull proprietor Alin Silverwood (pseudonym of Gary Barnum) and drawn by Ryan Best. Silverwood is a former writer and editor for Marvel Comics.
The issue will consist of 32 full-color pages, Silverwood says. Pledges begin at US$5 for a digital edition and US$12 for a print copy. He estimates delivery in July.
The campaign launched Jan. 21 and seeks US$2,500 by Feb. 27. Learn more on the Kickstarter page.
New Terrain Models
Also new on Kickstarter: Terrainiacs Studio of San Luis Obispo, California is crowdfunding Ironclad Empires, a set of terrain models for Warmachine and other steampunk-themed tabletop games.
The models are available as 3D printable STL files or as physical sets. Pledges begin at US$45 for the complete set of STL files. Pledges for the physical sets range from $55 to $280. Terrainiacs is estimating February delivery for the STL files and March delivery for the physical models.
The Terrainiacs website includes a free tutorial on how to paint one of the houses in the set.
The campaign launched Jan. 14 and reached its US$500 funding goal the same day. It runs through Jan. 30. Learn more on the Kickstarter page.
