Oddball Newt, the event organizer in Connecticut, has announced plans for another “12 Months of Steampunk” in 2022, beginning with this weekend’s Victorian Skate Fantasy.
Each month, Oddball Newt’s David Carlson will lead a steampunk event in the state, including photo shoots, hikes, and two larger gatherings: The seventh edition of the Stupid Cupid Steampunk Ball and the third Book Fiend Readers Fest. The latter will happen in June this year instead of fall, when it was previously scheduled.
The year kicks off on Saturday, Jan. 8 with the skating event at the Bolton Ice Palace (145 Hopriver Rd., Bolton). Steampunk fans are invited to dress in Victorian or steampunk garb as they take to the ice. The fun begins at 4 p.m. Admission is $10, plus $4 for skate rentals.

The 2022 Stupid Cupid Steampunk Ball will be a two-day affair, with performances by Victor and the Bully, Frenchy and the Punk, and the Eternal Frontier. The program also includes a fashion show by designer Kristen Costa and a discussion of Victorian traditions by author Leanna Renee Hieber, plus tea, teapot racing, and vendors.
Carlson describes the ball as Connecticut’s longest-running steampunk event.
It takes place Saturday, Feb. 26 and Sunday, Feb. 27 at Cheney Hall (177 Hartford Rd., Manchester). Tickets cost $25 for Sunday admission, $35 for Saturday admission, and $50 for the whole weekend. Frenchy and the Punk will perform at a separately ticketed brunch event that costs $25. An $80 VIP ticket will get you preferred seating, access to a private lounge, and other perks. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.
