Episode 12 of our video series The World of Steampunk takes viewers to two events: The Key City Steampunk Convention in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and Maker Faire Bay Area in Vallejo, California.
We visited the Key City convention in August and included some clips in Episode 11. Episode 12 takes a deeper dive, focusing on cosplay, makers, and entertainment at the event.
The segment features on-camera interviews with three organizers: Brian Fadrosh, Sheila Fadrosh, and Tobias McCurry. Brian emphasized the sense of community that infuses the event.
“I never expected to be part of the steampunk community,” he said. “I kind of fell into it. It kind of found me, and in doing so I found a family.”
The Maker Faire segment was shot in October. There, we spoke with co-founder Dale Dougherty and looked at some of the amazing DIY projects, including art cars, robots, illuminated sculptures, and more.
“I think anybody who’s never been here would be surprised at the variety of forms that they’d see here, the varieties of making, and how fun it is to see and meet these people and what they do,” Dougherty said.
We also visited Maker Faire last year and highlighted that experience in Episode 8.
