It’s been a long wait, but we’ve finally posted a new episode of The World of Steampunk, our video series. Episode 7, the biggest yet, features a Q&A with Unwoman along with a generous helping of steampunk news. The series is not a vehicle for breaking news, but it does allow us to convey the news in a more visual way. Auditory, too, as one new feature is an animated steampunk jukebox that allows us to present short music clips.
For most viewers, the highlight will be our “Steampunk Minute” (more like 20 minutes) with Unwoman, who discussed her new album, along with how she was drawn to steampunk and how she makes a living as a full-time musician. We also asked how she chooses songs for her “Uncovered” recordings, where she interprets compositions by other artists. And she demonstrated her live-looping technique, which allows her to create layers of sound while performing solo.
This is the first episode since early February. Our initial goal was to produce a new episode roughly once per month. But each episode takes a solid week or two of production time, while we’re also creating content for the website and trying to earn a living with freelance writing and editing work. So a monthly schedule may be a tad ambitious at this point, but we’re hoping it won’t take so long to get to Episode 8.
For now, the video is available on YouTube. We’ll also post it on Vimeo in the next few days for viewers who want an ad-free experience.
