The musical robots of Steam Powered Giraffe have a new album in the works. Nine years ago, they produced music for the video game SteamWorld Heist, “and we’ve been working in secret for the last two and a half years creating music for the sequel,” they wrote in a message to fans.
The album, Music from SteamWorld Heist II, will feature 15 new songs “with a quasi-nautical theme and of course a plethora of tasty vocal harmonies,” they wrote. A second disc will contain instrumental versions of the tunes.
They’re joined by Lacey Johnson, a backing musician and singer who also performs with the band on stage.
Even if you don’t like video games, “this album stands on its own and has plenty of catchy steam-powered tunes that you’d come to expect from the band,” they said. The album is now available for pre-orders.
The video game is also set for an Aug. 8 launch on all the major console platforms as well as PCs via Steam. You can wishlist it from the publisher.
One song from the album, “A Life of Un-Delightment,” can be heard in a reveal trailer for the new game.
Coming Soon to Escondido
The band will also take the stage on Saturday, July 27 for a live in-person concert at the Escondido Center Theater at The California Center for the Arts, in Escondido, California.
That’s the same weekend as Comic-Con International in downtown San Diego. For any con-goer who would like a musical interlude, they note that the theater is a 35-minute drive and ample parking is available.
Standard tickets cost $30 to $45, or you can pay $100 for a VIP ticket that includes optimal seating along with an opportunity to meet the band and get autographs. See the theater website for more info and to get tickets.
