New Kickstarters: Steampunk Heist Game, YA Mystery Adventure, and More

Feb 6, 2025

New steampunk Kickstarters this week include a whimsical card game/RPG, an illustrated YA mystery novel, a set of enamel pins, and a not-safe-for-work comic book adventure.

Heist Games in a Steampunk World

Fight in a Box, a game developer in Minneapolis, is crowdfunding Kaiser Cucumber’s 3-Night Heist, a steampunk-themed card game accompanied by an RPG. The campaign, which was quickly funded, has earned a “Project We Love” label from Kickstarter.

The games are set in a whimsical steampunk world with anthropomorphic animals and vegetables. In both games, players take the role of criminal masterminds who try to pull off a lucrative heist while eluding “bunny bobbies.”

Pledges begin at US$15 for the card game and $18 for the RPG core rulebook. The creator estimates delivery in February, 2026.

The campaign launched Feb. 4 with a US$5,000 funding goal. As of Thursday, it had raised more than $6,000. It runs through Feb. 21. Learn more on the Kickstarter page and the Fight in a Box website.

YA Mystery Adventure

Hailey Morrison, an Atlanta-based author, is crowdfunding Plagium, an illustrated steampunk mystery novel. She describes it as a “family-friendly regency adventure full of whimsical suspects, twisting clues, and curious inventions.” It’s aimed at young adult readers.

Pledges begin at US$5 for an e-book, $25 for a paperback, and $35 for a hardcover edition. She estimates delivery in July.

The campaign launched Jan. 30 and seeks US$1,200 by Feb. 28. See the Kickstarter page for more info.

Shadowbinders Inspires Enamel Pins

Nydaria Entertainment launched a Kickstarter campaign for a set of hard enamel pins featuring characters from the Shadowbinders webcomic series. The comics, which ran from 2010 to 2018, combined fantasy and steampunk elements. The pins reimagine the cast of the series as chibi characters.

Pledges begin at US$12 for your choice of one pin. The creator estimates delivery in May.

The campaign launched Jan. 31 and seeks US$1,500 by Feb. 21. Learn more on the Kickstarter page.

NSFW Comics

John Lamont, a Florida-based writer and comic book creator, launched a Kickstarter campaign for Issue No. 1 of Harpies, an NFSW (not safe for work) steampunk comic book adventure.

The “Harpies” of the title are young women with superpowers who battle a Nazi cult on behalf of the British Secret Intelligence Service. Lamont, who wrote the story, describes it as a crossover from two earlier series, Angel of Darkness and Spirit of the Dragon.

Pledges begin at US$6 for a PDF. Higher reward tiers included printed covers. The creator estimates digital delivery in March and delivery of printed items in May.

The campaign launched Feb. 3 and is well past its US$3,500 funding goal. It runs through Feb. 24. Learn more on the Kickstarter page.

Ongoing Campaigns

Sky Guy and The Altitude Adjustors – Issue No. 1 of a “cozy” steampunk comic book series featuring “mutants and perhaps a little bit of magic.” The campaign has reached 67 percent of its US$2,500 funding goal. It runs through Feb. 27.

Rivets and Revolution – A new steampunk novella by Jessica Lucci, set in the days leading up to the American Revolutionary War. It has reached 43 percent of its US$2,500 funding goal. It runs through Feb. 13.
