Key City Convention to Present ‘Steampunk Noir’ in Pennsylvania

Jul 31, 2024
Madam Misfit and VatB

“Steampunk Noir” will be the theme as the Key City Steampunk Convention returns Aug. 9-11 to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. U.K. electroswing performer Madam Misfit will make her first-ever U.S. appearance at the event, joining an entertainment lineup that also includes Nathaniel Johnstone and Victor and the Bully.

Yours truly will also be there for my first-ever personal appearance at a steampunk event outside California. On Friday at 3 p.m., I’ll discuss my work on The Steampunk Explorer, including my foray into video, tips for getting editorial coverage, and a sneak preview of the forthcoming redesign.

Then on Sunday at 11:30 a.m., I’ll discuss steampunk art in the SF Bay Area, with lots of photos and video clips of projects from Burning Man, Maker Faire, and other events. That will include never-before-seen video from last weekend’s Obtainium Cup Contraptor’s Rally.

The program also includes panels by other presenters along with workshops, a fashion show, a costume contest, teapot racing, nerf dueling, tea dueling with The Baroness Alexandra, and lots more.

Numerous artists will be on hand to share their wisdom, including Dave Lee, Michael Parodi, Brett King, James Neathery, Tony Ballard-Smoot, Stephen Chapman, Kolleen Kilduff, Lady De L’Etoile, and Donald Dodson. Guest authors include Leanna Renee Hieber and Montgomery Harris.

Victor and the Bully, Madam Misfit, and Nathaniel Johnstone are set to perform on Friday and Saturday night. On Friday, they’ll be joined by circus performer Krystal Younglove and fire artist Steampunk Xena. Saturday’s show will also feature a dance performance by Aela Badiana plus the “Nerds, Knives, and Noir Cabaret” with Krystal Younglove, juggler/comedian Paolo Garbanzo, and Madame Onca.

The full schedule is now live on the website.

It takes place at the Wyndham Gettysburg, 95 Presidential Circle, Gettysburg, PA 17325. Prices range from $35 for a single-day pass to $80 for weekend registration and $140 for a VIP pass. The latter includes access to exclusive meetups and a ghost tour. See the website for more info and links to purchase tickets.
