Back in 2022, The Steampunk Explorer introduced a new feature that we call Event Pages. The website always had a calendar of events, but listings in the calendar would disappear after the event concluded.
Event Pages provide a permanent home for information about major happenings. They include a description of the event along with links (website, social media, etc.), upcoming dates (if available), and articles about the event (if we’ve posted any).
The idea is that you can get information about an event even after it’s over and the producer hasn’t announced new dates. For example, if you’re a performer, artist, author, or vendor, you look up an event, visit the website, and inquire about openings at future editions.
The pages are linked to the calendar and other content. If an event is listed in the calendar, you will also see it listed on the event page. Tags underneath articles and calendar listings (seen here) will take you to the event page.
The old website had pages for about 20 events, mostly steampunk gatherings plus other happenings that tend to draw a lot of steampunk fans. But now we have pages for an additional 15 events, all available from a convenient directory.
In addition, we’ve added similar directories for fan conventions — mostly hotel-based science fiction and fantasy cons — as well as large pop culture and comic book conventions. We’ve learned that steampunk fans are interested in these events as well. Some might have steampunk-related programming, plus steampunk fans tend to be fans of science fiction and fantasy more broadly.
This is all just a start. Over time, we plan to add directories of anime conventions and Renaissance fairs, and we’ll be expanding the existing directories. That said, these directories are not intended as exhaustive lists of events — just the ones that tend to draw the most interest. We’re also less likely to list new events that have yet to establish themselves.
Links to these directories are in the new Events section of the website, along with the calendar listings.
