Frenchy and the Punk Plant a ‘Midnight Garden’ in New Album on Bandcamp

Wednesday, July 3, 2024

A bit sooner than expected, Frenchy and the Punk are out with their eighth album, Midnight Garden, just two months after concluding a successful Kickstarter campaign for the release.

Consisting of nine tracks, the album explores themes of “otherworldly escape and escapades, past lives, visions, arachnids, starting over, and more,” in the duo’s words. They’ve described the sound as “post punk” and “dark alternative.”

The album leads with the title track, which singer/lyricist Samantha Stephenson described in a recent radio interview as a “re-imagining of the Garden of Eden,” with the Moon representing feminine energy.

They’ve already released two music videos from the album: “Hypnotized,” inspired by 19th century hypnotist Jean-Martin Charcot, and “Like in a Dream,” a song “about the passage of time, the cycle of life, reality versus dream,” Stephenson said. The video for the latter was filmed at Art Omi, a sculpture park in Ghent, New York.

Midnight Garden is available now as a digital download from Bandcamp, with CD and vinyl versions to follow.

The duo funded production of the album in a Kickstarter campaign that ran in April. They originally estimated an August delivery for the digital download. The campaign raised close to $17,000 from 250 backers.

The release comes as the duo continue their busy tour schedule, which took them to the U.K. for much of June. Upcoming dates (all in the U.S.) include The Starwood Festival in Pomeroy, Ohio (July 11), the Sirius Rising Festival in Sherman, New York (July 26), Enchanted Fairy Festival in York, Pennsylvania (Sept. 22), and Dark Castle Festival in Louisville, Kentucky (Sept. 26). They’re also slated to perform at the Jewelry City Steampunk Festival, set for Oct. 5-6 in Attleboro, Massachusetts.
