Big Changes for Alice’s Night Circus

Alice's Night Circus

UK musician Julia Scott, who performs as Alice’s Night Circus, announced major changes to her act in a Vlog post on April 14. The biggest news: She’s changing her brand from Alice’s Night Circus to Alice Strange. “A lot of people struggled to get the name Alice’s Night Circus right,” she explained. In addition, she originally intended to have circus performers as part of her act, but later abandoned those plans.

The transition will happen slowly, she said, but will eventually encompass her logo, graphics, website, and social media accounts. She’s planning one more song, entitled “The Age of Elegance,” as Alice’s Night Circus.

Two new albums are in the works, one with original compositions and another with cover songs. She’d like to perform with a live band, but observed that her current music would require “a massive orchestra with a scattering of really weird specialist instruments.” So she’ll be teaming with another musician, Simon Bradshaw (aka WeatheredMan), to compose new songs that are more “band sounding” and “could be reproduced on stage,” she said.

In addition to her Vlog post, she discussed the changes in a lengthy interview with Ilya Rostov of SteamPaper during the run-up to SteamPunk Over Ether.

With so many cancelled gigs this year due to the COVID-19 outbreak, she’s also set up a new Ko-fi account as Alice Strange to raise donations.

If you miss her live performances, she’ll be doing a livestream concert next week featuring original music plus requests from listeners, “anything from musicals, classical, movies, pop, Disney, rock, vintage, etc.” It’s set for Wednesday, April 29, 8 p.m.-9:30 p.m. (UTC+02) on Facebook Live. That’s 3 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Eastern Time in the U.S. See the event page for more info.
