2022: The Year in Pictures

Wednesday, January 11, 2023

Steampunk events returned full bore in 2022 after tip-toeing back the previous year from pandemic-induced hibernation. Our year started in January when we were commissioned to produce content for Discover Steampunk, the traveling museum exhibition that opened the following month in New Mexico.

But in the steampunk world at large, the ball got rolling with the Atlanta Steampunk Expo and Whitby Steampunk Weekend, both held Feb. 11-13, followed two weeks later by the Stupid Cupid Steampunk Ball in Manchester, Connecticut.

What follows is a look back at many, though certainly not all, of the major steampunk gatherings of 2022. Follow the “See more” links in the captions to see our original coverage of the events.

Thanks to all the folks in the U.S. and UK who allowed us to use their photos: Stephen Bell, Clara Blackheart, Stephen Jacobson, Craig Jenkins, Fred Jeska, Curt Knapp, Dominique Linel, Bill Nesbitt, Andrei Pischalnikoff, and Eduardo Questell.

More year in review coverage: Board Games and RPGs | Books and Comics | Kickstarters | Movies and TV | Music | Video Games
