2021 Steampunk Symposium Not Happening, Moves to March 2022

Friday, April 16, 2021

While some in-person steampunk gatherings are attempting comebacks this year, one event that won’t be happening is the Steampunk Symposium in Cincinnati. It was slated for Aug. 20-22, but organizer Aloysius Fox announced on the website that it’s been postponed to March 25-27, 2022.

“While the national COVID 19 vaccination process will have made good progress by this summer, projections indicate that many precautions will still be in place and there could still be limits on public gatherings,” he wrote.

Last year’s Steampunk Symposium, initially scheduled for March 27-29, was one of the first steampunk events to feel the impact of COVID 19. Two weeks before its scheduled opening, Fox announced postponement of the event in response to a public health order in Ohio.

At first it was postponed to Aug. 28-30, 2020, in anticipation that the pandemic would be short-lived. A couple months later, as the course of the outbreak became clearer, he announced that the August event had been cancelled and set the new dates for 2021.

The March date for 2022 aligns with the spring timeframe of past Symposiums.

The original “Weird West” theme planned for 2020 and 2021 will roll over to next year.
