Twice a year, goths and steampunks from across the U.K. travel to the North Yorkshire coast for Whitby Goth Weekend. The latest gathering took place April 26-28, and our guest photographer was there to shoot pictures and pose for some as well.

The Morris Museum is hosting AutomataCon, described as “a convention for automata collectors, artists, historians, and enthusiasts.” Automata are mechanical devices that function much like robots, but dating back as far as ancient and medieval times.

It’s an excellent month for Star Trek fans as the final season of Star Trek: Discovery premieres on Paramount+. Other notable arrivals include Hellboy, Dead Boy Detectives, Black Sails, and a National Geographic documentary about octopuses.

Controversial event producer Jeff Mach blamed Eventbrite for payment issues at the Wicked World’s Fair in Pennsylvania. The ticketing company appeared to push back in a statement provided to The Steampunk Explorer.

“I was a witness to the Apocalypse.” Those were the words of one participant at the Wicked World’s Fair (WWF), a self-described “Steampunk/Polygenre Festival” that took place Feb. 23-25 at the SureStay Plus hotel in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Two very different films with steampunk aesthetics arrive this month on streaming services. First up is Poor Things, the critically acclaimed Yorgos Lanthimos film, followed by Wonka, an origin story inspired by Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Participants at last weekend’s Wicked World’s Fair cited a litany of problems, including a lack of security and dangerously overcrowded vendor spaces. It was produced by Jeff Mach, who previously organized the Steampunk World’s Fair.
