The year’s last big weekend for steampunk events is approaching, especially in the U.S. with TeslaCon, Steampunk November, the Vermont Steampunk Expo, and three gatherings in California, plus Steampunk the Thames in New Zealand.

Once a year, a small group of steampunk fans gathers in Santa Cruz County, California, for a picnic and other shenanigans, and so it happened on Saturday, Oct. 26, as they met at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park in Felton.
Entertainment
Highlights this month include the second and final season of Arcane, the acclaimed animated fantasy series that has become a favorite among steampunk fans. Meanwhile, sci-fi fans are awaiting the premiere of HBO’s Dune: Prophecy.

Haworth, known for its association with the Brontë sisters, once again welcomed steampunk fans for Haworth Steampunk Weekend. Presented by White Rose Yorkshire Steampunks, it featured steampunk markets, entertainment, and lots of cosplay.

Maker Faire Bay Area returned Oct. 18-20 to Mare Island in Vallejo, California, once again presenting a bounty of do-it-yourself projects and opportunities to meet their creators. We have photos and a video.
Event Preview
The event will offer a showcase for eye-popping do-it-yourself projects, including vehicles, kinetic art, robotics, fashion, and more. Participants include Obtainium Works, Kinetic Steam Works, and other longtime favorites.
Music
Lost to the Night is available now on CD and as a free digital download. A vinyl version is set to ship in November. Tracks are based on Bram Stoker’s Dracula along with works by Edgar Allan Poe and Emily Brontë.

Anno 1900 returned Sept. 28-29 to Minett Park Fond-de-Gras in Pétange, Luxembourg, and once again the event provided a spectacular setting for steampunk cosplay.
Music
The chap hop maestro joined forces with frequent collaborator Tom Caruana to produce “this unholy concoction of new songs, instrumentals, remixes, and horrors.” He’s also gearing up for the next Festival of Whimsy near Brighton.
Entertainment
October is here, which means that streaming services are showcasing horror films and other Halloween fare, though Peacock and Prime Video got a head start last month with a slate of Universal Pictures classics. Steampunk fans can also look forward to other treats.
Crowdfunding
This week’s Kickstarters include new campaigns from crowdfunding veterans Madeleine Holly-Rosing, eSpec Books, and Kyro Dean. All three were quickly funded and are now in stretch goals.
Music
The album is billed as a “musical rollercoaster of emotions.” It features nine tracks, including the previously released single “Pay It Forward,” plus collaborations with Professor Elemental and Thomas Benjamin Wild Esq.

WMG Publishing is out with Barkson’s Journey, the second book in the steampunk fantasy series Qavnerian Protectorate by Kristine Kathryn Rusch. Meanwhile, Conquest Publishing released The Darkness of Dying in the Light, a YA steampunk novel by S.E. Reed.

The Big River Steampunk Festival returned to Hannibal, Missouri over Labor Day weekend, and once again our Midwest correspondent was there to take photos and file a report. One estimate pegged total attendance at 22,000.

Big news for self-published and unpublished authors: The Black List, an online platform that connects screenwriters to Hollywood studios and producers, wants to do the same for fiction.

Thousands of steampunk fans descended on Lincoln, U.K. as the Asylum Steampunk Festival took place Aug. 23-26. It featured a jam-packed lineup of artists, speakers, music acts, and more, but one of the biggest attractions was the cosplay.

Streamers have lots of nerdy treats this month, including Agatha All Along on Disney+, Batman: Gotham by Gaslight on Max, The Boy and The Heron on Max, and a host of Universal horror classics on Peacock and Prime Video.

Crowdfunding
Big, unwelcome changes are coming to Patreon, the monetization platform used by many steampunk creators, due to requirements imposed by Apple’s App Store. The moves prompted Unwoman to announce that she is leaving the platform.
Event Preview
Once again, geeks of every stripe, including steampunk fans, will converge on Atlanta for Dragon Con, the huge multi-genre fan convention that takes place over Labor Day weekend. We have a preview.
