Steampunk favorites The Eternal Frontier will be the headline act at the festival. It will include steampunk-related activities, but the name also alludes to the event’s focus on science, technology, engineering, art, and makers.
The steampunk duo is slated for multiple performances Saturday and Sunday at the New Jersey Festival of Ballooning, which drew 170,000 attendees in 2019. They’re also planning steampunk meetups and promenades at the festival.
The duo performs “It Never Rains in Southern California” over scenes from their appearance at the 2019 Gaslight Gathering in San Diego. It’s the first of five videos the band plans for release in the next several months.
The online festival will include appearances by Frenchy and the Punk, The Eternal Frontier, A Halo Called Fred, and more. It replaces an in-person festival held annually in historic Belvidere, New Jersey.
Meant as a homage to filmmaker Georges Méliès, the video features the duo’s new rendition of “Wreck of The Shenandoah,” a song originally recorded in the 1920s. To emulate the sound of that time, they recorded it on wax cylinders.
Gamechanger Audio is a maker of guitar pedals with “major inherent steampunk vibes,” says Professor Adam Smasher. The video features the duo’s “PLASMA Pedal Safety Song” about the dangers of modifying the equipment.
