Monocacy National Battlefield is the site of the Battle of Monocacy in the American Civil War fought on July 9, 1864. Labeled "The Battle That Saved Washington," it was one of the last the Confederates would carry out in Union territory. It's operated by the National Park Service and includes a visitor center with an electric map orientation program, an interactive computer program, interpretive displays, and artifacts of the battle.
