This historical society focuses on La Jolla, an affluent coastal city near San Diego. It owns and operates three historic structures, including the 1904 Wisteria Cottage Museum at 780 Prospect Street and an adjacent research center at 7846 Eads Ave. The latter location houses the society's offices. Its activities include "exhibitions, presentations, symposia, discussions, interviews, architecture tours, youth education, and annual community events such as the Secret Garden Tour of La Jolla and the La Jolla Concours d’Elegance & Motor Car Classic." In addition, "the Society consults with the City of San Diego regarding landmark designation of properties located in La Jolla."
