Preston Castle

Preston school of Industry during the annual Halloween tour.
The Preston School of Industry, also known as Preston Castle, was formerly one of the oldest and best-known reform schools in the United States. It is located in Ione, California, in Amador County. Built between 1890 and 1894, it is the most significant example of Romanesque Revival architecture in the Mother Lode.
The castle is now owned and operated by the Preston Castle Foundation, which is seeking funds to restore the facility. The organization offers guided tours on Saturdays between April and August and other times by arrangement.
It also hosts nighttime paranormal tours, as the castle is reputed to be a site of paranormal activity. It's about 45 minutes by car from Sacramento or Stockton.
