California State University, Sacramento (Sacramento State, informally Sac State) is a public comprehensive university in the capital city of California. The university enrolls approximately 29,000 students annually. It offers 151 different Bachelor's degrees, 69 Master's degrees, 28 types of teaching credentials, and 2 Doctoral degrees. The university is the site of two National Register of Historic Places, the Julia Morgan House and the terminus of the Pony Express.
With over 1.4 million volumes, the Sacramento State library is the third largest in the California State University system. It is open to members of the general public, but a community user card is required for borrowing privileges. They are free for CSU alumni, public school employees and faculty spouses. Others must pay $50 per year.
Notable alumni include actor Tom Hanks, author Raymond Carver and jazz musicians Bobby McFerrin and Steve Turre.
