The society, founded in 1884, operates the Alexander Grant Mansion House, originally built in 1721, and the Josephine Jaquett Memorial Library. The mansion houses the museum, which includes a Keeping Room with colonial-era items including a a spinning wheel. The Legacy Room has items from the society's collection, which numbers more than 10,000 objects and includes furniture, glassware, earthen ware, paintings, china, decorative arts and textiles.
A stone barn contains large items including carriages, sleighs, farm equipment and a horse-drawn hearse. The barn also houses a blacksmith shop. Salem County is in southeastern New Jersey.
