Raynham Hall Museum
20 West Main St., Oyster Bay, NY 11771
This house museum in Long Island's Oyster Bay was the home of Robert Townsend, one of George Washington's Culper Ring of spies. In the mid-1800s, it was remodeled to reflect Victorian style, but the front portion was later restored to a Colonial design. It opened as a museum in 1953 and includes a collection of artifacts from 1740 to 1940. One item of note is America's first recorded Valentine's Day letter.
The house is alleged to be haunted (as is its namesake in England)
Robert Townsend is a recurring character in the AMC TV drama series "Turn: Washington's Spies."
