The Bronx County Historical Society
The Bronx County Historical Society is a private non-profit organization that collects and disseminates historical material and information about The Bronx in New York City. The society's collections include books, reports, photographs, archival records, objects, and other artifacts. It maintains a Research Library at its headquarters. Use of the library is by appointment only on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
In addition to the library, the society operates two historic sites. The Museum of Bronx History occupies the 1758 Valentine-Varian House near the society headquarters (3266 Bainbridge Avenue at East 208th Street). The society also manages the Edgar Allen Poe Cottage, where the author lived until shortly before his death.
