Macalester College is a private, coeducational liberal arts college in Saint Paul. It was founded in 1874 as a Presbyterian-affiliated but nonsectarian college. Macalester is an exclusively undergraduate four-year institution and enrolled 1,978 students in the fall of 2013. Notable alumni include Reader's Digest founder DeWitt Wallace, former vice-president Walter Mondale, former UN secretary general Kofi Annan, actor Carl Lumbly, and "The Walking Dead" actress Danai Gurira.
Library access: The DeWitt Wallace Library offers Neighbor Cards with borrowing privileges to St. Paul residents as well as students, faculty and staff from other Twin Cities colleges. The cost is $10 per year.
