Highland Park Bowl
5621 N. Figueroa St., Los Angeles, CA 90042
Highland Park Bowl bills itself as the oldest bowling alley in Los Angeles. Founded in 1927 during the Prohibition era, it was restored and refurbished in 2015 by the 1933 Group.
"During this process, elements including the bow truss architecture, skylights, and mural painted by the Anderson Brothers were uncovered," states a historical backgrounder from the new owners. "Exploring decades of history, décor features incorporate a compendium of vintage pieces from the alley’s past. For instance, pinsetters were transformed into chandeliers, bowling machines were repurposed as bar shelves, and multiple display cabinets showcase recovered bowling trinkets, pennants, and artifacts spanning the building’s timeline."
