The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) is a public research university serving the greater Kansas City area. It is one of four system campuses that collectively constitute the University of Missouri. UMKC is spread across multiple locales. The main Volker Campus, home to the majority of university operations, is located in Kansas City's Rockhill neighborhood. In 2017, the university announced plans to expand its metropolitan identity with the construction of a downtown Campus for the Arts, located near the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. The university's enrollment as of 2015 exceeded more than 16,600 students.
Newcomb Hall on the UMKC campus is home to the Kansas City Research Center of The State Historical Society of Missouri.
Notable alumni include actress/comedian Edie McClurg and actor Connor Trinneer, best known for his roles on "Star Trek: Enterprise" and "Stargate Atlantis."
Library access: UMKC's Miller Nichols Library is open to the public. Guests may use collections within the library. Borrowing privileges are extended to members of Friends of the Library, which requires a minimum donation of $50 per year.
