Museum of the American Railroad
6299 N. Cotton Gin Road, Frisco, TX 75034
The Museum of the American Railroad has a large collection of steam, diesel and passenger railroad equipment. The museum is noted for allowing guests to walk through some of the equipment. It grew out of an exhibit at the 1963 State Fair of Texas and became an annual staple of the fair, officially becoming a museum in 1986. It remained on the same 1.8-acre site at Dallas' Fair Park until closing its original location in November 2011. The museum is in the process of fully relocating to Frisco, Texas.
The Frisco site remains under construction. Interim exhibits and the Museum Store are housed at the Frisco Heritage Museum. Access to the rolling stock collection is currently limited to scheduled tours, which are listed on the website.
