Brandeis University is an American private research university in Waltham, Massachusetts, 9 miles west of Boston. In 2015 it had a total enrollment of 5,532 students on its suburban campus spanning over 235 acres. The institution offers more than 43 majors and 46 minors. The university has a strong liberal arts focus. Notable alumni include "Star Trek" actress Gates McFadden ("Dr. Beverly Crusher"); New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman; technology writer Walter Mossberg; actor/director Tony Goldwyn; and actresses Tyne Daly and Louise Lasser.
Library: The Brandeis University Library manages more than 1,500,000 physical volumes, and more than 600,000 electronic books, as well as electronic journals and online databases.
