Editor’s note: Steampunk fans from Northern Nevada and points beyond stepped through the looking glass as High Desert Steam hosted its annual expo and ball, Nov. 16-17 at the Wilbur D. May Museum and Victorian Ranch House in Reno, Nevada.

The event gave a steampunk twist to the works of Lewis Carroll with an “Alice Immersive” theatrical performance, a Mad Hatter Tea Party, and lots of imaginative cosplay. It also featured author readings, maker panels, a fashion show, art exhibition, and more.

Meanwhile, the Sacramento Steampunk Society sent a contingent of constables to keep the peace. Miscreants were hauled in front of a camera to pose for mug shots.

Our guest photographer Clara Blackheart was on hand to capture the zaniness. You can see her work in the gallery below.

It also includes her photos from Top Brass IV: A Royal Affair, held Nov. 2 at The Old Spaghetti Factory in Roseville, California. That event, hosted by the Sacramento Steampunk Society, featured an appearance by Queen Victoria and other dignitaries from the British Empire. Many of those same dignitaries showed up a couple weeks later in Reno, cleverly disguised as mad inhabitants of Wonderland.

You can see more photos on the High Desert Steam and Sacramento Steampunk Society Facebook pages.
