Whitby Pavilion once again hosted a large gathering of steampunks in costumed splendor

Tuesday, September 7, 2021

Editor’s note: After a long pandemic-induced hiatus, steampunk fans returned July 23-25 to Whitby Pavilion in North Yorkshire for Whitby Steampunk Weekend X. One of the larger steampunk gatherings in the UK, it featured a steampunk market plus workshops, presentations, and live entertainment. But as always with events like this, the attendees themselves were major attractions with their splendid outfits.

This was the first steampunk or goth event at the venue since COVID lockdowns were lifted.

Lucky for us, photographers Paul Harrow and Kelly Robson of P & K Making Memories were there and allowed us to use some of their shots, which you can see in the gallery below.

Looking ahead, WSW Events, the group that produces the festival, has already announced a slate of gatherings for 2022:

Whitby Steampunk Weekend XI will return Feb. 12-13 to Whitby Pavilion with two halls of traders plus presentations and workshops. It will be preceded by the Gatsby Valentine’s Ball, a Friday night event with Kal’s Kat Live Dance Band providing the entertainment.

On Sunday, May 1, WSW Events and AdVintageous Vintage Fairs & Events will join forces for the Scarborough Vintage & Steampunk Fair at Scarborough Spa in North Yorkshire. This will be two fairs in one, with WSW Events handling the steampunk fair and AdVintageous managing the vintage portion in a separate hall.

Race The Waves & Steampunk Weekend, June 16-19, is another two-fer event combining Race the Waves, a vintage car festival, with a steampunk market. It takes place at Bridlington Spa in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Then it’s back to Whitby Pavilion for Whitby Steampunk Weekend XII, July 22-24, with free daytime activities plus ticketed evening events on Friday and Saturday. Guests for the latter have not yet been announced.

Meanwhile, you can enjoy these scenes from the latest gathering. All photos are used courtesy of P & K Making Memories. You can see lots more on the P & K Making Memories Facebook page.
