Scenes from the Spring Faire
That’s the new Big River Steampunk Spring Faire, held March 30-31 in Hannibal, Missouri
Editor’s note: The Big River Steampunk Festival in Hannibal, Missouri is one of the largest steampunk gatherings in the U.S., drawing thousands of people each year to the boyhood home of Mark Twain. It’s held over Labor Day weekend, when many folks are away on vacation. So organizers Ken and Lisa Marks decided that the time was right for a new spring event.
Held March 30 and 31, the Big River Steampunk Spring Faire was a smaller indoor gathering with music, magic, circus acts, cosplay, tea dueling, maker workshops, and other steampunk frolic. Guests included Doc Phineas, the Ragged Blade Band, and stage performers Dr. Zero, Sammy Tramp, Darling Violet, Eva La Feva, Sio Bast, and Sally Marvel.
Originally set for the Coontz Armory, it was forced to move due to flooding, and ended up at the Mark Twain Brewing Co. in downtown Hannibal.
Fortunately for us, photographer Curt Knapp was there with his camera and allowed us to use some of his photos. He’s also posted numerous photo albums from the Big River Steampunk Festival in 2016, 2017, and 2018. See his Facebook page for more info about his work.
