An Early Look at The Nevers
Scenes and characters from HBO’s new science fiction series set in Victorian-era London

Steampunk fans have been eagerly anticipating The Nevers, the new HBO series about the “Touched,” a group of (mostly) women in Victorian London with unusual powers. Now that it’s set for an April 11 premiere in the U.S. and Canada, HBO has revealed more about the story and its large cast of characters.
The Touched gained their powers, known as “turns,” after a supernatural event in 1896. Three years later, protagonists Amalia True (Laura Donnelly) and Penance Adair (Ann Skelly) seek to protect the Touched from deepening social hostility. Meanwhile, police inspector Frank Mundi (Ben Chaplin) is on the trail of Maladie (Amy Manson), a dangerous serial killer who is reportedly Touched.
The first half of Season 1 will consist of six weekly episodes running through May 16. In the UK, the series will premiere May 17 on Sky Atlantic and NOW.
HBO has not announced air dates for the second part of the season, which will also consist of six episodes. HBO chief content officer Casey Bloys told The Wrap that the sixth episode provided “kind of a natural narrative break.”
The series was created by Joss Whedon, who left in November amid accusations of a toxic work environment on the sets of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Justice League. HBO named Philippa Goslett as the new showrunner, and she will oversee production of future episodes. Longtime Whedon associates Douglas Petrie and Jane Espenson remain as executive producers.
HBO released the first official trailer on March 23, along with new production stills and brief descriptions of the first six episodes. To keep you in suspense, we’ll refrain from discussing the latter. But in the gallery below, you’ll find scenes from Season 1 and a look at the main characters.
