Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 2, 2021

Stephen Beale ("us", "we", or "our") operates http://www.steampunk-explorer.com (the "Site"). This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use and disclosure of personal information we receive from users of the Site. The page provides details about what happens when you visit our website. By using the Site, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

We want you to know that we take your privacy seriously. We use your personal information only for providing and improving the Site. In general, we have configured this website to minimize the amount of information collected from users while maintaining the ability to analyze overall site traffic.

In most cases, the data we collect is submitted automatically by your browser when you visit the site. This is also the case with most other websites.

In addition, you have the option to subscribe to an email newsletter. If you choose to do so, we will ask for your email address, and you have the option to provide your first and last name. You will always have the option to unsubscribe. We are not engaged in e-commerce, so we do not ask for financial information. Registration is not required to use the site.

Log Data

Like many site operators, we collect information that your browser sends whenever you visit our Site ("Log Data").

This Log Data may include information such as your computer's Internet Protocol ("IP") address, browser type, browser version, the pages of the Site that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages and other statistics. We use summaries of this data for internal purposes. For example, it allows us to identify which articles are drawing the most traffic and how many users are viewing the site on mobile devices. We may publicize aggregated statistical information, such as monthly totals of unique website visitors or rankings of the most popular stories. We may also share aggregated summaries privately with outside parties.

Google Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics, a third-party service, to collect, monitor and analyze data submitted by web browsers. We have configured Google Analytics to anonymize visitors' IP addresses. This means that Google Analytics removes a portion of the IP address before storing it. We have also configured Google Analytics to comply with Do Not Track headers in web browsers.

YouTube videos

Some stories in The Steampunk Explorer include embedded YouTube videos. These videos have been embedded with YouTube's Privacy-enhanced mode. This means that YouTube will not collect user data unless you play the video. If you do play the video, YouTube will leave a cookie and may collect data about your visit to the site. If you do not want YouTube to collect this data, don't play the video.

Some embedded YouTube videos will include ads that pop up as you play the video. You can close these ads by clicking on the X button in the upper right. The Steampunk Explorer has no control over the content of these ads, and does not earn any income from displaying the ads.

Cookies

Cookies are files with small amount of data, which may include an anonymous unique identifier. Cookies are sent to your browser from a web site and stored on your computer's hard drive.

Like many sites, we use "cookies" to collect information. You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. We do not use so-called "tracking cookies," which track your behavior on other websites.

Advertising

This website includes self-hosted advertising. This means that all advertising is posted by the site administrator. We do not use third-party advertising networks. The advertising you see is not personalized based on your behavior when browsing other websites. You will see the same ads that are presented to other users. We assume that most visitors to The Steampunk Explorer will have an interest in steampunk literature or culture, and we solicit advertising on that basis.

Our email service provider also records the IP address of the device used when you signed up. You always have the option to unsubscribe. If you do so, your name, email address and other personal information will be removed from the system.
