North Carolina Central University
North Carolina Central University (NCCU) in Durham is a public historically black university in the University of North Carolina system. It offers programs at the baccalaureate, master’s, professional and doctoral levels. The campus is located about a mile south of downtown Durham, and about three miles east of Duke University. As of 2011, NCCU had a total of 8,587 students, (full and part-time) including 5396 full-time undergraduate and 1233 full-time graduate students.
Library: NCCU's James E. Shepard Memorial Library contains more than 850,000 volumes and subscribes to about 5000 periodicals. It has reciprocal borrowing arrangements with other institutions in the University of North Carolina System and the Triangle Research Libraries Network. Unaffiliated community members can gain access to library resources by joining Friends of the Library.
